![]() ![]() I hope you have a good antenna on your truck and not one of those 3 footers either.you need a good antenna and coax these are what make or break any radio. You comment about being concerned about how far out you can talk. If you just want a few extra watts more than the average CB, it might be for you. Why are you wanting one? For the power? Can you run an external amp in your truck? If so you'd be miles ahead going this route. But I won't obtain a license to run a radio that actually reaches out.Īndiana Jones, I can't comment on if the Stealth would be right for you.some like them, some hate them. I'm not losing sleep over it, like so many others are over the fact that "there are monsters out there running 10 meters without a license and modifying there CB's, get 'em! They're savages!" I obtained a license to drive a car, I obtained a license to drive a truck. I'm not gonna on a device that I can legally buy, but "not allowed to use." Now if that makes me a jerk, so be it. And I'm not gonna buy a license for the privilege. It's a difference of, "Hey, which bridge is moving freely right now, George Washington or Tappan Zee?" I need to know that info about 25 miles before I make my decision, because once I start down NJ, and THEN find out the GW is backed up, it's too late, and I'm sitting there for 2 hours. Having a radio that shoots out 5 miles sometimes isn't enough. I want a radio that has a good, clear distance because I run NYC all the time, and depending on what bridge is backed up at the time, I'd like to make the best choice of route. As a tool to get info on traffic, directions, attractions in the local area, etc. I'm a trucker, and I use the CB for it's purpose. Now I know there are a bunch of immature people on the radio, but it doesn't mean everyone is. But we do it because we can get away with it. Yes, it's illegal, but so is speeding, downloading free music, and so on. No one is running out to spend money on a license to run a 10 meter radio. ![]() It seems these guys ( truckers ) wastes more money on illegal junk then what it would cost to get a license and be legal and use a more professional grade of equipment. MY GAWD WA4GCH - can't you teach these guys enough stuff on here so these guys can pass a simple test and get their amateur radio license and move off the 11 meters already? Those people ought to be thrown in jail in my opinion.Ĭobra Stealth RFX? Nope - never used or owned one.ġ0 meters - you can't use 10 meters unless you have a license. There is actually a lot of illegal activities going on these days.Įven the local cb shop - BOB's - did this, along with playing a recorded message every 10 minutes, advertising Bob's CB Shop Corsica on channel 19. I have even heard tell of several of them that took perfectly good Kenwood TS 2000 and 590's and opened them up for 11 meters and hooked them up to a repeater controller. There is one guy on there they call the Joker - who plays a recorded message over and over again from the television series Batman.Īctually - if you listen long enough - there is a whole group of # that acts this way and another group of # that idolizes them. There was one group of # who would listen and another group of # that talked, played music, musical microphones, echo, laughing psychotically at their own private jokes etc.īasically it was enough to get me to turn it off. I have experienced it, and all I could say was that I was listening around the band about a year ago with a old Silktronix 1011D Comanche and I heard people talking on 11 meters / trying to work DX - or Watergate - what ever they call it now. I don't know why, maybe they would like to be more like amateur radio operators - without having to pass the test, get a license, or act civilized.īy switching from Upper Side Band to Lower Side band, there seems to be some noise rejection - maybe more then what you would have if everyone just used USB only on 11 meters. There was a group of channels - lets say 1 - 10 which uses upper side band and a group of channels - lets say 35 - 40 which they call their DX band. Not actually a band plan - such as what they use with amateur radio, but more like a schedule - which the CB radio crowd uses to find each other. There is a web site I came across a while back, which had the band plan for 11 meters. I might not be right, but it's just a thought. I'm going to try to explain it - in my own way.
